From Yarn to Form: A Shared Expression at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025

The exhibition Unraveling: New Spaces, presented within the Serbian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025, explores how we perceive space, textiles, and transformation. In a moment when architecture increasingly moves beyond the boundaries of statics and structure, this exhibition opens up a space for rethinking material — not merely as a building component, but as a language. A material that builds, but also speaks. One that blurs the lines between design, art, and the everyday.

What began as a conceptual thread gradually found its material rhythm through our hands. At IVKO Woman, we recognize the strength in texture, the meaning in gesture, and the vision in every strand. Months before the opening of the Biennale, the idea quietly matured — shaped by the hands of our skilled artisans and realized with carefully selected, high-quality yarns provided by the Edoardo Miroglio company. The making process was quiet and rhythmic, much like the installation itself — contemplative, precise, and full of patience.

From Yarn to Form: A Shared Expression at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025

Loop by loop, our factory became a place where abstract ideas were translated into texture, weight, and form. This was not merely an act of fabrication, but a dialogue — between hands and material, between contemporary expression and deeply rooted artisanal knowledge.

At the heart of the pavilion stands a monumental wool form that, over the course of six months, gradually unravels. Powered by more than 150 solar motors, this kinetic structure performs a real-time architectural gesture, returning, thread by thread, to its source: a simple cone of yarn. Its logic is not linear, but circular. Architecture here is not presented as a static expression of power, but as an open system — where fragility, change, and renewal are intrinsic to its meaning.

The work invites visitors to reconsider the relationship between composition and deconstruction, presenting architecture not as something fixed, but as movement — fluid, cyclical, and open to constant transformation.

As a partner in the project representing Serbia at the 2025 Biennale Architettura, IVKO Woman proudly supports this exceptional artistic and architectural vision. Within it, we recognize our own dedication to material, interdisciplinarity, and the cyclical rhythm of making.

Supporting this project means supporting a form of expression that transcends space and speaks through form. A commitment to craftsmanship, precision, and intention — values we share deeply.

This partnership is not just a contribution. It is a quiet affirmation of artistry, process, and the stories that emerge when tradition and innovation meet — and create together.

About Us

IVKO Woman specializes in designing and creating high class woven and knitted garments combining exceptional craftsmanship with state of the art knitting technology. We use only the finest natural fabrics and fibers in producing an exquisite range of fashion designed for the modern, independent woman.

Ivko’s success story began in 1986 when opened a small knitting workshop in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. During the 1990s, production moved to Belgrade, Serbia, where several years later, the once modest family business turned into a fully fledged fashion brand. Today, Ivko Woman is a globally distributed fashion label with products stocked in major fashion stores across the world.

Repeated customer satisfaction and praise at major industry fairs around the world tell our story of innovation and success. This may be due to the fact that we still perform with the same passion as we did almost three decades ago. Instead of trying to guess what the next big trend in fashion might be, we let our products evolve in a natural, 'organic' way.
